Something that I have been giving some thought to lately is what
would be a way to fix all the things about the government that I find
to be unjust or unwise. To this end, I have reading A Theory of Justice
by John Rawls. Starting from scratch, as sacrilegious as it may sound,
just might be a good idea. Well, today on Digg there is a post about
Wiki Law which is undergoing a project under the same vein of thought.
The project is called Democracy 2.0 and anyone can contribute laws:
Democracy 2.0 hopes to answer the following question: if
the country started from scratch today, meaning there are no laws, what
laws would you make for society? We hypothesize that collaboration through a wiki will filter social
norms, transform these social norms into legislation, which in turn
will produce superior laws to govern society.
This is my first submission, filed under “Domestic Relations/Family Laws” section:
Marriage shall be solely a religious institution. All
that the government shall concern itself with is civil unions. Civil
Unions will be between two consenting adults who wish to have the legal
protections that are currently associated with marriage. Any religious
organization can grant marriage to any party according to their
religious beliefs.
Someone beat me to the fair tax law.
